Our Church of St Mark's

St Mark’s Community Church and Centre
‘Seeking to express the love of God within the local community’
St Mark’s Church is one of two Anglican churches serving the spiritual life of people in the Parish of Godalming. It is situated on Franklyn Road, in the Ockford Ridge and Aaron’s Hill area.  Dedicated in 1934, the small, modern building of St Mark’s Church stands in stark contrast to the larger and older church of St Peter and St Paul which can be found in the centre of Godalming and has seen over 1,200 years of Christian ministry and worship. Although it is a small church, you will find the congregation at St Mark's warm and friendly.
Sunday worship lasts for about an hour after which everyone is welcome to enjoy refreshments and a chat.
There is no creche or Sunday school at present, but we can provide pew bags with colouring books and one or two other items to help keep young children amused. We have occasional services which are geared to include children and encourage their participation, such as Mothering Sunday, Harvest Festival and the Crib Service.
St Mark’s has a Communion Service at 10.00 am on the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Sunday of each month.  On the 3rd Sunday of each month there is a more informal service without Communion also at 10.00 am.
For more information about specific services or other events take a look at the calendar or the St Mark's News and Events page.
If you are on Facebook you can find more information on the St Mark's Church and Community group page there.
Rev Robbie Harvie is the part time Assistant Priest who is based at St Marks, but also leads services at St Peter and St Paul when available.
Both churches have strong links with Green Oak Church of England voluntary-aided School.
St Mark’s is unique in that its building serves a dual purpose within the local community. As a church, it provides a contemporary sacred space for Christian worship, prayer, baptisms, funerals and other activities such as Lent and Advent courses, all aimed at celebrating, recognising and fostering an awareness of the love and presence of God in the community.

As a Community Centre, St Mark’s welcomes many different groups who regularly use its space for activities. These include the mums and toddlers’ group (Busy Bees);  the Tuesday Group for the elderly, keep fit and relaxation classes, birthday parties, quizz nights,  and U3A activities such as table tennis and short-mat Bowls.  It is also used as a Polling Station for local elections.

Mrs Karen Milton, the Community Centre Co-ordinator, manages all queries regarding Centre bookings. She can be contacted on 01483 418741 during the following hours: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9.00 am to 2.00 pmFriday 12 noon to 2.15 pm.  Bookings cannot be made through the Parish Office, so if Karen does not reply please leave a message and she will return your call as soon as she can.
